Untold: The Death and Life of Lamar Odom dropped on Netflix on March 31, and the fallout was swift. The documentary, which traces the former NBA star’s turbulent life and near-fatal 2015 overdose, also peeled back the curtain on his whirlwind 2009 marriage to Khloé Kardashian. What Odom revealed on camera sent shockwaves straight to Khloé herself, and she wasted no time making her feelings known.
In the documentary, the 46-year-old former Los Angeles Laker reflected on his decision to propose after just 30 days of dating. His candid admissions painted a picture of a man drawn not only to Khloé but to the world she represented. He described the marriage as a move that gave him access to a new kind of influence, going from being a celebrated athlete to stepping into the orbit of one of the most powerful families in entertainment. A close friend featured in the film echoed that sentiment, suggesting the union was partly a calculated step toward a bigger future.
For Khloé, 41, hearing those words played back publicly was a gut punch she did not see coming.
Khloé speaks out on her podcast
On the April 15 episode of her podcast Khloé in Wonder Land, she addressed the situation with unfiltered honesty. She expressed deep frustration not just at what was said but at the fact that she had willingly participated in the project. She said she spent hours contributing to the documentary as a personal favor and received no compensation for her involvement. Netflix had reportedly told her the film could not be completed without her perspective, and after months of going back and forth, she agreed. Now she says that decision haunts her.
Her anger extended beyond the financial. She described feeling humiliated by a man she had once stood beside during his darkest hour. When Odom was found unresponsive at a Nevada brothel in 2015, it was Khloé who remained by his side through his recovery, even though the two had already separated in 2013. Their divorce was not finalized until 2016, partly because of how closely she remained involved in his care.
A pattern she refuses to ignore
This is not the first time Khloé has felt violated by Odom’s actions. She pointed to a life-size doll he had made in her likeness two years ago as an earlier example of behavior she found deeply disturbing. She described it as one of the most unsettling things anyone has ever done to her and said she has never fully let it go.
What stings most, she suggested, is the lack of accountability. She sees a recurring pattern in Odom’s behavior, one where nothing is treated with real seriousness and attention-seeking takes the place of genuine reflection.
Why Khloé is choosing herself
The conversation inevitably turned to her love life and why she has stepped away from dating for the past four years. Her answer was clear and unapologetic. She pointed to the emotional weight she has carried from past relationships, including her years with Odom and her more recent history with Tristan Thompson, as reason enough to slow down. Rather than rushing toward a new romance, she said she has chosen to focus on her children and the life she is actively building for them
