The Met Gala guest list is never made public in advance, and Zendaya has not said a word about whether she plans to attend the 2026 edition. And yet the conversation around her potential appearance has been building steadily, fueled by a combination of recent history, a theme that seems almost designed for her sensibility and signals from the people closest to her creative work.
This year’s theme is Costume Art, with a dress code of Fashion Is Art. For an artist who has made the Met Gala staircase one of her most reliable stages, the brief sounds less like a constraint and more like an open invitation. Zendaya does not hold an official role at this year’s event, but the absence of a formal title has never kept her away before.
A return to form and a streak worth protecting
Zendaya stepped away from the Met Gala for several consecutive years before making a much-discussed return in 2024, when she attended as a co-chair and arrived in not one but two looks that generated significant attention both inside the venue and across social media. In 2025 she continued the streak, appearing in a custom Louis Vuitton suit paired with an oversized hat that became one of the most talked-about fashion moments of the evening.
The combination of those two appearances has reset expectations for what Zendaya brings to the event and raised the stakes for every subsequent year. Walking away now, particularly with a theme this well-suited to her aesthetic, would be a surprise.
Law Roach’s comments are doing a lot of the talking
Her longtime stylist Law Roach has been notably vocal about the Met Gala in recent weeks without saying anything specific. Speaking to a media outlet in late March, he described the preparation process as one of the most demanding in fashion, noting that months of work ultimately come down to a few minutes on the carpet. He also spoke warmly about his creative dynamic with Zendaya, describing a partnership so fluid and intuitive that the final look could emerge from almost anywhere in the creative process.
Roach did not confirm which clients he is dressing for the event, but the enthusiasm with which he has discussed the theme and the preparation suggests he is actively working toward something significant. Given his history with Zendaya and the depth of their collaboration, it would be reasonable to assume she is part of that picture.
The Beyoncé factor and a year packed with releases
There is one more detail that has not gone unnoticed by fans. Beyoncé, who holds a place of particular significance for Zendaya personally and culturally, is confirmed as a co-chair for the 2026 gala. The prospect of both women sharing the same staircase on the same night has generated considerable excitement among followers of each.
Beyond the Met Gala, 2026 has already been a relentlessly busy year for Zendaya. She completed a global press tour for The Drama opposite Robert Pattinson, has been promoting the third season of Euphoria, and is looking ahead to two major summer releases alongside her fiancé Tom Holland. Dune: Part Three is also expected before the year closes.
Whether she carves out time for a May appearance in New York amid all of that remains officially unknown. But the theme fits, the stylist is in motion and the co-chair lineup has added another reason to show up. At this point, the question may not be whether Zendaya attends the Met Gala 2026 but what she decides to wear when she does.
