Jay-Z is basking in a proud parenting moment. At Michael Rubin’s Fanatics Fest luncheon on July 17, the rapper briefly addressed reporters about the opening night of his 30th anniversary concert series, a run that kicked off July 10 at Yankee Stadium in New York. Asked whether the show ranked among his favorite moments, he did not hesitate to agree that it was a clear highlight, brushing off any need for further explanation.

The Yankee Stadium set brought out more than nostalgia. Jay-Z invited his wife, Beyoncé, their 14-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy, and a lineup of guests including Alicia Keys, who joined him for a rendition of Empire State Of Mind. Beyoncé took the stage for Can’t Knock the Hustle, delivering an energetic performance that had the crowd roaring. Jay-Z praised her vocals afterward and called for the audience to cheer for his wife.

Blue takes her turn at the piano

The night’s most talked about moment came when Blue Ivy joined her father for Feelin It, a track from his 1996 debut. She closed out the song with a piano solo, prompting Jay-Z to introduce her by her full name to the crowd before the two embraced on stage.

The performance builds on comments Jay-Z made to GQ back in March, when he described his daughter’s musical ability as something close to innate. He explained that she has resisted formal piano lessons because she does not want music to feel like an obligation, yet she can hear a song once and teach herself to play it thanks to what he called perfect pitch. He credited her drive rather than raw talent for how far she has progressed, saying he takes pride in watching her pursue something she chose for herself. He added that he now expects she will want to keep performing.

Blue Ivy’s stage of honor subheading

Blue Ivy’s Yankee Stadium moment is not her first turn sharing a stage with her parents. She previously joined Beyoncé during the Renaissance World Tour in 2023 and returned for the Cowboy Carter Tour in 2025, appearing at 32 shows across three months. During that run, a recurring dance she performed to Beyoncé’s 2006 hit Déjà Vu became a viral moment among fans, who nicknamed it Déjà Blue.

Between the piano solo and her history of stage appearances, Blue Ivy is increasingly stepping into her own identity as a performer rather than simply accompanying her famous parents. For Jay-Z, the Yankee Stadium show offered a rare public marker of that shift, one he seemed genuinely moved to discuss even in a brief red carpet exchange. As his anniversary concert series continues, fans will likely be watching closely to see whether Blue Ivy returns to the stage for future dates, and whether her piano skills make another appearance alongside the family’s growing list of shared performances.
