LeBron James has launched a YouTube channel dedicated to golf, debuting the venture with a 90-minute-plus video of a 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers reunion trip to Scotland that took place in June, featuring several teammates from the team that ended Cleveland’s 52-year championship drought.

The debut video brings together Kevin Love, J.R. Smith, Richard Jefferson, Tristan Thompson and Channing Frye for a golf trip that doubled as a reunion marking the 10th anniversary of the historic championship. The 2016 Cavaliers came back from a 3-1 deficit against the Golden State Warriors to win the NBA title, one of the most remarkable championship runs in professional sports history.

The channel’s description frames James’s golf content as an invitation to follow along as he plays some of the world’s greatest courses, with food, wine and what the description promises will be plenty of laughter.

The mission behind the channel

James addressed the deeper motivation behind his growing interest in golf in a July appearance at the CNBC Sport x Boardroom Game Plan Summit in New York City. He said his goal is to open doors for kids who grew up in urban communities like the one he came from, giving them access to country clubs and the sport at a young age, whether through caddying, renting clubs or receiving instruction.

He said the barrier is not financial but psychological and structural. Kids in those communities have the passion for the sport, he said, but the pathways to entry have not been built for them. The YouTube channel, while not explicitly framed as a civic project, gives James a platform to normalize golf as a space for people who have historically not seen themselves reflected in it.

James’s off-court ventures

The golf channel is the latest in a career-long pattern of business and media development alongside his playing career. His production company SpringHill Entertainment has produced film and television content, and his business partnerships have spanned media, food and beverage, and real estate. The launch of a personal YouTube channel focused on leisure and lifestyle is a newer direction, one that reflects where social media has moved for athletes in terms of direct audience access.

He signed with the 76ers this offseason on a two-year, $8 million deal, calling it the final free agency decision of his career. He had considered returning to the Cavaliers but chose Philadelphia, where he joins Joel Embiid, Jaylen Brown and Tyrese Maxey. The Scotland trip and the reunion with his 2016 teammates happened in June before his move to the 76ers was finalized.

Why the 2016 Cavaliers reunion matters

The 2016 championship remains the defining achievement of his Cleveland tenure and arguably the centerpiece of his entire career narrative. Coming back from 3-1 down in an NBA Finals against a 73-win Warriors team, in a city that had not won a major professional sports title since 1964, produced the kind of cultural resonance that does not fade with time.

Bringing those teammates together in Scotland a decade later and making the reunion the subject of his YouTube debut is a deliberate choice about where his relationship with that team and that moment stands in his personal history. The 90-minute-plus format suggests the content is designed for fans who have invested in the James narrative over decades, not casual viewers looking for a short clip.

For those fans, the combination of world-class golf destinations, familiar faces from that championship squad and his characteristic storytelling personality is exactly what the channel promises.
