Coco Gauff is back in the US Open quarterfinals for the first time since winning the US Open in 2023, beating No. 14 seed Iva Jovic 6-1, 6-4 on Monday night to extend her winning streak to 10 matches and her straight-sets streak to nine, the longest of her career.

Gauff said the first set was at a high level for her and that Jovic raised her game in the second, creating some early-break opportunities she did not convert. Gauff said she is happy with how she closed out the final game from behind on serve and acknowledged she did not need to be perfect to advance.

She advances to face fifth-seeded Mirra Andreeva on Wednesday. Gauff leads Andreeva 5-0 in their head-to-head series, including their only previous hard-court meeting at the 2023 US Open.

The streak and the season

She won the Cincinnati title in six straight matches and has now won her first four in New York, all in straight sets. She has not dropped a set since her opening match at Cincinnati. The current straight-sets streak of nine is the longest of her career.

She said the quarterfinals no longer feel as large a moment as they once did, that she is used to being in this position, and that she feels fortunate to be playing here with the hope of going much further.

This year, Gauff has reached three major quarterfinals for the first time in her career, becoming at 22 the youngest American woman to reach the quarterfinals of three different majors in a single year since Serena Williams did it at age 21 in 2003.

Her US Open history

Gauff won the 2023 US Open for her first Grand Slam title. She was eliminated in the fourth round by Emma Navarro in 2024 and by Naomi Osaka in 2025. The US Open quarterfinal appearance Monday is her first at Flushing Meadows since the year she won.

Jovic, who beat No. 17 Alexandra Eala in the previous round, was trying to match her best result at a Grand Slam. She had reached the quarterfinals of this year’s Australian Open. She was unable to replicate that result against Gauff.

The ranking race

She remains in contention for the year-end No. 1 ranking alongside Aryna Sabalenka, Elena Rybakina and Jessica Pegula. A run to the final, or the title, would significantly strengthen her position, and her form heading into the quarterfinal suggests she is playing as well as she has at any point this season.

The Andreeva quarterfinal presents a different kind of US Open test than any opponent she has faced so far this tournament. Andreeva won the French Open this year and has the weapons to challenge the top seeds on any surface. The 5-0 head-to-head advantage Gauff holds includes one meeting on hard courts, which at least provides a data point.
