Antonio Brown threatens Druski over CTE sketch

The reaction reveals more about the subject than the sketch itself did.

The former NFL wide receiver made a graphic, sexually explicit threat against comedian and content creator Druski during a street interview with We Outside by Sidetalk, after being asked whether he believed Druski’s viral CTE sketch was mocking him specifically.

Brown said he considered it possible the skit targeted him, then vowed retaliation, describing it using explicit language before adding that the group would come after Druski physically. When asked what he would actually do if he ran into Druski in person, Brown scaled the threat back somewhat, saying he and others would give the comedian a wedgie as payback on behalf of what he called his CTE brothers, naming former Seattle Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor as part of that group.

What was the sketch that set Brown off

Druski posted the sketch, titled ‘Athletes Get Concussions and Lose Their Minds,’ on August 26, playing a fictional running back named Ray Price in a fictional league. The video opens with Price taking a violent hit that knocks his helmet off, then follows him through an escalating series of chaotic scenes, including a car chase in a gold Ferrari, a tense confrontation at a woman’s home, and repeated head banging against a locker, before Price attempts a rap career and eventually appears at a mock press conference unable to recall much of his football career.

Was the sketch actually about Antonio Brown specifically

Not according to Druski, who has not identified the character as based on any single player. Viewers have instead connected different moments in the sketch to a range of NFL figures, including Tua Tagovailoa, Brown himself, Richard Sherman and Ray Rice, making it more of a composite of well known football headlines and player behavior than a direct portrayal of one person.

Brown has not been formally diagnosed with CTE, which under current medical standards, according to the Boston University CTE Center, can only be definitively diagnosed through examination after death, meaning it would be inaccurate to conclude any living athlete, including Brown or Chancellor, actually has the condition based on public behavior alone.

How have other athletes reacted to the sketch

Reactions have split along different lines. Former NFL safety T.J. Ward criticized the sketch on the Speakeasy podcast, acknowledging parts of it were funny while arguing the underlying disease deserved more sensitivity given it can be fatal. Former NBA All-Star Michael Redd raised similar concerns, saying CTE ranks among the conditions contact sport athletes fear most and shouldn’t be built into comedy.

Former NFL offensive lineman Kyle Long predicted Druski would face backlash from a number of people over the sketch. Not every reaction was negative, however. Former player Vincent McDonald told TheGrio he did not see the sketch as insensitive, arguing it drew attention to behavior patterns people already witness regularly without stopping to consider the cause behind them.

Why does the timing of this sketch matter

The sketch dropped one day after The BMJ published a major study examining former NFL players who died between 2008 and 2021, which found that at least roughly a quarter of former players who died between 2016 and 2021 had CTE pathology present at death. That research gave the sketch a heavier real world backdrop than a typical viral comedy clip, turning what could have been dismissed as satire into a flashpoint over how football culture jokes about a serious, still not fully understood neurological disease.

Does Antonio Brown have a history of public controversy

Yes, extensively. After establishing himself as one of the league’s top receivers with the Pittsburgh Steelers from 2010 through 2018, Brown’s career unraveled following a trade to the then Oakland Raiders, who cut him before he played a single regular season snap.

He resurfaced briefly with the New England Patriots before being released over misconduct allegations, then played two more seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, winning a Super Bowl in his first year there before abruptly leaving the field mid-game during a Week 17 matchup in his final NFL appearance. Since retiring, Brown has leaned into associating himself publicly with CTE, including through his own social media branding, even as his behavior has drawn skepticism rather than the concern he seems to be seeking.

Has Druski responded to the threat

Not publicly as of this writing. It remains unclear whether Brown intended the comments as genuine threats or exaggerated provocation for attention, and no updates have indicated Druski has addressed the situation directly.
