Six straight losses have not shaken Philadelphia’s faith in its quarterback or its playcaller. The coach made clear Monday that he is standing by both, even as frustration grows.
Tanner McKee will remain the Philadelphia Eagles’ starting quarterback and Sean Mannion will keep calling plays, the team’s coach said Monday, Nov. 2, 2026, despite a losing streak that has reached six games.
What did the Eagles coach say about Tanner McKee?
The coach called Tanner McKee the team’s guy and said no changes would be made at quarterback. McKee took over after Hurts was sidelined and has now made three straight starts.
He said the team is looking for solutions in every area, including the scheme, the weekly schedule and the plays it practices, and that everything is on the table for the coaches. He said the coaches are examining everything they can do differently.
On the coaching staff, he said fixing the offense is on everyone. He called football the ultimate team game, said the team is in the business of solving problems and said the burden falls on him and Mannion. He acknowledged that the offense is not moving in the right direction right now.
How has Tanner McKee played?
Tanner McKee has started the last three games, completing 63.2% of his passes for 639 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. His completion rate is respectable, but the offense has struggled to finish drives.
He threw for 212 yards and an interception in Sunday night’s 27 to 10 loss to the Washington Commanders. The offense managed only one touchdown in the game.
Joe Milton, a pick in the sixth round of the 2024 draft by the New England Patriots who most recently played for the Dallas Cowboys, is serving as his primary backup. Milton is known for his powerful arm.
Why has the Eagles offense struggled?
Philadelphia, now at two wins and six losses, is averaging 17.1 points a game, which ranks 30th in the NFL. Only two teams have scored fewer points per game.
Mannion, a former quarterback who played in the league as recently as 2023, had just two years of coaching experience before taking over as playcaller. He was hired to bring in a modern system similar to those used by Kyle Shanahan and Sean McVay after the offense grew stale in 2025. Those offenses rely on motion, play action and a strong running game.
The new scheme has barely taken shape around Tanner McKee. Right tackle Lane Johnson retired suddenly, several skill players have been injured, center Cam Jurgens was traded and quarterback Jalen Hurts was lost to blood clots in his lungs. The constant changes have made it hard for the offense to build any rhythm.
What other moves have the Eagles made?
General manager Howie Roseman traded Jurgens to the Baltimore Ravens in October in what looked like a selling move. Running back Saquon Barkley said Sunday that the front office assured him he will not be traded before the Nov. 10 deadline.
Barkley has played limited snaps while dealing with hamstring and back injuries. He scored a touchdown against Washington.
What is next for Tanner McKee and the Eagles?
Philadelphia hosts the New York Giants, who lead the NFC East, on Sunday before its bye week. The Giants are Barkley’s former team.
A win could ease pressure before the break, while another loss would make the slump even harder to escape. The bye week would give the coaches extra time to adjust the offense.
For now, Tanner McKee has the backing of his coach as the Eagles search for answers. The next game will show whether that faith is rewarded.
