Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux said officers from the department’s fugitive unit had been tracking the man in connection with an active warrant when he fled into the hospital parking structure shortly before 11 p.m. and barricaded himself inside a vehicle. A SWAT team was called as the standoff continued.
Officers deployed tear gas in an attempt to force the man out of the vehicle. When he emerged, he was holding a firearm and pointed it toward officers, who responded by opening fire. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Comeaux confirmed the man displayed the weapon but did not fire it.
Who the man was
CBS News Texas identified the man as 39-year-old Diamon-Mazairre Robinson, who had been operating under the alias Mike King. Dallas police have not officially released his name.
According to CBS News Texas, Robinson had been arrested seven times for theft in Dallas and surrounding areas between 2009 and 2012 and appeared to have pleaded guilty to all those charges. Under the alias Mike King, he built a new professional identity and eventually became a security officer for Crockett, working on her detail both in Washington and in Texas.
Law enforcement sources told CBS News Texas that Robinson told people he was a detective with the United States Capitol Police, a claim that may have contributed to a federal investigation that led to the warrant for his arrest. He was formally wanted for impersonating a law enforcement officer.
Robinson ran a business called Off Duty Police Services, which placed off-duty officers in security positions across North Texas. He also oversaw security teams at several downtown Dallas hotels and at his church, according to CBS.
Sources also told the network that Robinson drove a replica undercover law enforcement vehicle equipped with license plates he had allegedly removed from vehicles parked outside a military recruiting office.
His connection to Crockett
Images obtained by CBS News Texas show Robinson standing near Crockett at public events and accompanying her during her recent campaign for a United States Senate seat in Texas. Campaign finance documents reviewed by CBS show that a man named Mike King was paid for security services by Crockett in 2025.
Crockett lost her bid for the Senate seat in the Democratic primary to James Talarico. Her office has not issued a public statement beyond an initial acknowledgment of the incident. The Dallas Police Department has not provided additional information beyond what Chief Comeaux shared at the scene.
The circumstances surrounding how Robinson came to serve on the congresswoman’s security detail despite his criminal history under his legal name have not been publicly addressed by either Crockett’s office or Dallas police.
