On the evening of April 6, a confrontation near the valet area of the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida escalated into a shooting. Offset, the Atlanta rapper and Migos member whose legal name is Kiari Cephus, was struck and transported to a local hospital. A spokesperson for the rapper confirmed he was receiving medical care and described his condition as stable. He has since been discharged.
Authorities responded to the scene and took two individuals into custody in connection with the incident. One of them was rapper Lil Tjay, identified in Broward County records as Tione Jayden Merritt. He was booked on a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct. A second person was also detained but not charged. Lil Tjay’s attorney has maintained that the rapper had no involvement in the shooting itself, and he was released from custody shortly after his arrest.
Offset responds publicly
Since leaving the hospital, Offset has addressed the incident directly. In a public statement, he thanked supporters for their concern and said he was focused on his family, his recovery and returning to music. He described the experience as clarifying, framing it around the idea that life is built from quiet wins as much as loud losses.
Offset  also previewed new music that appears to reference the shooting and broader personal struggles, including a line about gambling and persistence that signals a more reflective tone in his upcoming work. The track has not yet been released in full.
Lil Tjay’s legal situation goes beyond Florida
The Florida arrest is not the only legal matter Lil Tjay is currently navigating. According to court documents reported by TMZ on April 11, the rapper was charged in December 2025 with a misdemeanor count of simple battery following an alleged incident at a Los Angeles cannabis dispensary in March of that year. After he failed to appear at a January 2026 arraignment, an Los Angeles County Superior Court judge issued an arrest warrant with bond set at $20,000.
Lil Tjay subsequently appeared in court with his attorney and entered a not guilty plea. The court recalled the arrest warrant on February 26, roughly six weeks before the Florida incident.
An alleged financial dispute between the two
Reports circulating in the days following the shooting suggest that a financial disagreement between Offset and Lil Tjay may have contributed to the tension between them. The nature and amount of the alleged dispute have not been confirmed by either party, and no official statement has addressed it directly. Neither rapper’s legal team has commented on the claim.
Where things stand
Offset is recovering at home. His representatives have not announced any changes to his professional schedule, though he has signaled that new music is coming. The shooting remains under investigation by Florida authorities, and the full sequence of events leading up to it has not been officially confirmed.
Lil Tjay faces the disorderly conduct charge from the Florida arrest, with his attorney continuing to dispute any connection to the shooting. His previously recalled battery warrant in Los Angeles adds legal complexity to an already layered situation.
The hip-hop world has followed the story closely since it broke, with fans and observers waiting for further details from both camps. As of publication, no additional charges have been filed in connection with the shooting itself.
