Inside Bianca Censori’s revealing testimony at Kanye West’s Malibu mansion lawsuit

Bianca Censori took the witness stand in a Los Angeles courtroom this week, answering questions about one of the more unusual renovation projects in recent celebrity real estate history. The case centers on a lawsuit brought by Tony Saxon, a former worker who is seeking $1 million in unpaid wages and alleging a range of serious grievances including unsafe working conditions, disability discrimination and wrongful termination.

At the heart of the dispute is a property that has become something of a symbol for the contradictions that tend to surround Kanye West. He purchased the Malibu beachfront home in 2021 for $57 million, and what followed was a renovation so extensive and so unconventional that it became the subject of wide public attention long before it reached a courtroom.

What the house was and was not

During her testimony, Censori addressed a characterization of the property that she found inaccurate. West’s own legal team had described the home as an intended off-the-grid shelter, framing the gutting of the structure in those terms. Censori disagreed with that description, suggesting the phrase was being used in reference to aesthetics rather than function. In her telling, the project was always intended to be a private residence, and the core concept never fundamentally changed regardless of how it may have appeared from the outside.

Her pushback was measured but clear. She positioned herself as someone with direct knowledge of the project’s intent, and her role in shaping that narrative was significant given that she was working on the property as an architectural consultant as far back as late 2021, before she and West were married.

A shifting vision and a complicated timeline

Other testimony in the case painted a picture of a renovation process defined by constant change and escalating ambition. A separate witness described West’s plans for the property as perpetually in motion, with ideas ranging from a private school to a bomb shelter, a monastery, a recording studio and even a children’s play space outfitted with slides and ramps. Whether any of those visions were ever seriously pursued or simply floated in conversation remains a matter of dispute.

West and his legal team have pushed back firmly on Saxon’s central claims. Their position is that Saxon was an independent contractor rather than an employee, a distinction with significant legal implications, and that he was already paid $240,000 for less than two months of work before the arrangement ended. They argue his lawsuit is an attempt to extract money beyond what he was contractually owed.

Saxon’s account differs considerably. He has told the jury that he was promised $20,000 per week, that he received only one payment, and that his role ended after he raised concerns about safety at the work site. The question of whether he was an employee or a contractor will likely be central to how the jury weighs his claims.

Power of attorney and a personal detail

One of the more notable moments in Censori’s testimony came when she confirmed that she holds power of attorney for her husband, meaning she has the legal authority to sign documents and make certain decisions on his behalf. The disclosure added another layer to the picture of how West manages his affairs and how closely Censori is integrated into both his personal and professional life.

The two married in 2022, just one month after West’s divorce from Kim Kardashian was finalized. The timeline places Censori in an interesting position within the Malibu property’s history, having been involved in the renovation before the marriage and now serving as one of its most important witnesses in court. Her testimony may ultimately prove as consequential to the outcome of the case as any other piece of evidence presented to the jury.
