Bradley Chubb and what he really said

Two days after taking a punch at midfield, a Buffalo Bills veteran set the record straight about what led up to it.

Bradley Chubb said Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2026, that his comments to Los Angeles Rams offensive tackle Alaric Jackson were about football, not about Jackson’s mother. Jackson punched Chubb after the Bills’ overtime win on Monday night.

What did Bradley Chubb say to Alaric Jackson?

Bradley Chubb told reporters he had heard claims that he insulted Jackson’s mother and said those claims are false.

Instead, he said, he told Jackson that the next time the teams met, the extra blocking help the Rams used against him would not save Jackson. He said he specifically mentioned the chip blocks from the tight end and help from the guard. Chipping is a technique in which a tight end or running back hits a pass rusher before running a route, giving the tackle extra help. In other words, Chubb was saying the Rams needed extra blockers to slow him down.

When Jackson asked him to repeat himself, Chubb said he did. That was when the punch came, Chubb said.

Chubb acknowledged that he started the conversation. Video shows Jackson was swapping jerseys with Bills defensive tackle Deone Walker when Chubb got his attention. Jackson had removed his shoulder pads and jersey before walking over, while Chubb was still in full uniform. Rams tight end Colby Parkinson pulled Jackson away after the punch.

Why was Bradley Chubb upset with the Rams?

Chubb said the Rams’ trash talk grew louder only once they believed they were going to win. He described it as a team talking big when things were going its way.

The mood shifted after Bills defender Greg Rousseau blocked a Rams field goal attempt in overtime, giving Buffalo new life. The Bills went on to win 37 to 34. Quarterback Josh Allen then led Buffalo to the winning field goal, earning the first overtime victory of his career.

How did Bradley Chubb handle the punch?

He chose not to swing back, and he says he is proud of that decision. Chubb said the Bills signed him to play and to lead, and fighting would not have set a good example. Right after the game, he had said he let Jackson swing because the second player to react is usually the one who gets punished.

Still, Bradley Chubb accepted some responsibility for the incident and said he and his teammates have lessons to learn.

He joked that the experience taught him to either keep his hands up or wear a helmet next time.

Chubb said he has not heard from Jackson since the game.

What happened to Alaric Jackson?

The NFL initially suspended Jackson two games without pay for unsportsmanlike conduct. On Wednesday, the suspension was reduced to one game after Jackson appealed. The league cited its rule against acts contrary to the principles of sportsmanship. It was Jackson’s second career suspension after he sat out two games in 2024 for violating the personal conduct policy.

The reduced penalty means Jackson will miss the Rams’ Week 6 game against the Arizona Cardinals but could return the following week.

Will Bradley Chubb face the Rams again?

Not during the regular season. The Bills and Rams are not scheduled to meet again in 2026, so a rematch would have to come in the Super Bowl.

Chubb said he sees that as a real possibility.

For now, Bradley Chubb and the Bills are focused on Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders. The team is practicing this week at UC Irvine in California, between two road games in the West.
