Colman Domingo storms SNL with the hottest April lineup

With Euphoria Season 3 dropping the very next day and a blockbuster biopic weeks away, Domingo's April 11 hosting slot could not be better timed

There are SNL episodes you catch the next morning on YouTube. And then there are the ones you clear your Saturday night for. The April 11 episode is shaping up to be the latter — and Colman Domingo is the reason why.

NBC confirmed that the two-time Oscar nominee and Emmy winner will make his hosting debut on Saturday Night Live on April 11, joined by Brazilian superstar Anitta as musical guest in her first SNL appearance as well. Two firsts, one stage, one night. The energy is already building.

Colman Domingo Is Arriving at the Perfect Moment

This is not a random booking. Domingo is stepping into Studio 8H at arguably the hottest point of his career — and the timing is surgical.

His April 11 episode airs the day before the Season 3 premiere of Euphoria on HBO, where he plays Ali, a mentor to Zendaya’s Rue — the role that earned him a drama guest acting Emmy in 2022. The cultural appetite for anything Euphoria-related right now is at a fever pitch, and Domingo landing on SNL the night before the premiere is the kind of synergy that marketing teams dream about.

He also portrays Joe Jackson in the highly anticipated Michael Jackson biopic Michael, opening in theaters April 24 — and he earned back-to-back Academy Award nominations in 2024 and 2025 for his work in Rustin and Sing Sing. The man is not just busy. He is on a historic run.

Why This SNL Slot Hits Different

Domingo has emerged as one of Hollywood’s busiest and most in-demand actors, with credits spanning Fear the Walking Dead, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, Zola, Rustin, and Sing Sing. But despite all of that, Studio 8H has never seen him — until now.

First-time SNL hosts bring an unpredictability that repeat hosts simply cannot replicate. Nobody knows yet what Domingo brings to a sketch. Nobody knows his comedic timing in that format, how he handles a live audience, or what the writing room builds around him. Domingo shows his comedic side on Tina Fey’s The Four Seasons series, which returns for a second season in May— so the range is clearly there. But SNL is its own universe, and debut energy is real.

Anitta Is Ready for Her Moment

Domingo is not the only one making history that night. Anitta steps onto the SNL stage for the first time as well, and her debut is one the music world has been waiting for.

The Brazilian superstar is internationally celebrated for her Billboard Hot 100 hits including Envolver, Me Gusta featuring Cardi B and Myke Towers, and Bellakeo with Peso Pluma. Her reach extends far beyond one market — she is a global force who has spent years building toward a moment exactly like this one.

Anitta is regarded as the most influential pop star in Brazil and is a two-time Grammy Award nominee, including a Best New Artist nod in 2023. Her SNL debut comes on the heels of releasing Pinterest, the first single from her forthcoming eighth studio album, Equilibrium. A debut single. A debut SNL performance. The rollout is perfectly constructed.

April 11 Just Got Circled on the Calendar

Domingo will take the baton from Jack Black, who hosts SNL on April 4 alongside musical guest Jack White — Black’s fifth time hosting the show. That is a strong lead-in. But the April 11 episode carries its own unmistakable weight.

Two debuts. A cultural heavyweight at the height of his powers. A global music star ready to introduce herself to a whole new audience. Euphoria fever running at full force in the background.

Catch Colman Domingo and Anitta on Saturday Night Live, airing on NBC on April 11 at 11:30 p.m., with livestreaming available on Peacock. Set the reminder now.
