Dwyane Wade gets his Bentley from Shaq 20 years later

Two decades after Miami's 2006 championship glory, the NBA icon opens up about a legendary promise, an unexpected Bentley delivery, and sneakers taking over volleyball courts everywhere

Twenty years is a long time to wait for a Bentley — but apparently, good things really do come to those who wait.

Dwyane Wade stopped by The Tonight Show on Friday to chat with host Jimmy Fallon, and the conversation quickly turned into a nostalgic, laugh-out-loud trip down memory lane — covering everything from a broken promise made by Shaquille O’Neal to a new chapter in Wade’s post-basketball life with his growing footwear brand, Way of Wade.

A Reunion Two Decades in the Making

Earlier this year, the 2006 Miami Heat finally got back together in one room — the first time the full group had gathered since celebrating their championship title. For the man who anchored that squad at just 24 years old, the experience hit differently than expected.

Back then, he described himself as quiet and reserved — very much the youngest guy in a locker room packed with massive personalities. That roster was something else entirely

  • Shaquille O’Neal
  • Gary Payton
  • Antoine Walker
  • Jason Williams (White Chocolate)
  • Udonis Haslem

The two youngest players on that team simply kept their heads down and did whatever the veterans asked. Looking back now, it is clear that championship moment set the trajectory for everything that followed — the television appearances, the endorsement deals, the cultural relevance that has stretched well beyond retirement.

Shaq’s Promise, 20 Years Late

After winning the 2006 title, Shaq made Wade and Haslem a bold promise — win the championship, and he would buy both of them a Bentley. For two young players, that was all the motivation they needed.

The Bentleys never arrived.

For two full decades, Wade and Haslem waited. They eventually went out and bought their own Bentleys because Shaq simply never delivered. Then, just this past week — 20 years later — Shaq finally made good on his word. Sort of. Wade revealed the two received remote-control Bentleys, not the luxury vehicles they had imagined as championship-hungry 24-year-olds.

Wade laughed it off, but the message was clear — Shaq is a man of his word, just on a very, very delayed timeline.

The Photo LeBron Still Hasn’t Signed

One of the most talked-about moments from the interview involved a photograph — arguably one of the most iconic images in NBA history. The no-look pass to LeBron James, captured perfectly mid-play, hangs proudly at home and has never received a signature.

The plan is to wait until LeBron officially retires before asking — and given how long that retirement seems to be taking, the joke landed that it might not happen until 2038.

What most fans get wrong about that play is the mechanics. It was not an alley-oop. It was a bounce pass. LeBron’s footsteps were audible pounding the court from behind, the pass went back instinctively, and both hands went up knowing exactly what was about to unfold.

Way of Wade Goes Viral in Volleyball

Post-basketball life has brought an unexpected success story through his footwear brand, Way of Wade. The newest release — the Way of Wade 12 Wade Boulevard — arrives in green and white, inspired by the real street bearing his name in Miami.

The shoes are available at revolve.com and wayofwade.com, but the most surprising part of the brand’s growth has nothing to do with basketball. Young female volleyball players across the country have quietly made these sneakers a go-to choice, with parents rushing to buy pairs thanks to the traction and overall performance.

The Moment That Summed Everything Up

At a high school volleyball game recently, four girls were spotted wearing the shoes courtside. Excited, he walked over to thank one of them personally for supporting the brand.

She had absolutely no idea who he was — or that the shoes were his design. She just liked the color.

It was the perfect, humbling reminder that great products speak for themselves — with or without the name attached.
