CinemaCon in Las Vegas delivered one of the most anticipated reveals of the year when Amazon MGM Studios unveiled the first trailer for The Thomas Crown Affair. The footage introduced Michael B. Jordan in what marks his first live-action role since his recent Academy Award win, and judging by the early reaction, the wait has been more than worth it.

The presentation itself was a full sensory experience from the very start. Grammy-winning musician Jon Batiste, who has been confirmed to score the film, opened the studio’s showcase with a live piano performance of “The Windmills of Your Mind,” the beloved song that became synonymous with the 1968 original. The moment set a moody, sophisticated tone before a single frame of footage even appeared on screen.

Jordan brings heat to an iconic role

The trailer positions Jordan as a wealthy, razor-sharp art thief navigating a world of wealth, deception, and carefully controlled chaos. His on-screen dynamic with co-star Adria Arjona crackles with tension and wit, establishing a flirtatious push-and-pull that feels central to the film’s energy. Arjona’s character challenges Jordan’s at every turn, questioning his motives and poking at what she sees as deeper vulnerabilities beneath the polished surface.

The footage also places Jordan in a pointed confrontation with Kenneth Branagh’s character over the ethics of ownership and possession. A striking line woven throughout the trailer frames the entire story as something more personal than a simple heist, suggesting that revenge and artistry are not entirely separate pursuits in Jordan’s version of Thomas Crown.

A legacy worth reimagining

The Thomas Crown Affair has a storied history in Hollywood. Norman Jewison directed the original in 1968 with Steve McQueen commanding the screen opposite Faye Dunaway. The film became a landmark of cool, a heist story wrapped in style and sharp romantic tension. A 1999 remake starring Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo modernized the premise while honoring what made the original so magnetic.

Now Jordan steps into that lineage with a fresh interpretation written by Drew Pearce, based on Alan R. Trustman’s original story. The supporting cast alone signals serious ambition. Lily Gladstone, Danai Gurira, Pilou Asbæk, and Aiysha Hart round out an ensemble that brings both range and credibility to the project.

What to expect from the new film

Plot details remain tightly under wraps, which only adds to the intrigue surrounding the project. What the trailer does make clear is that this version of The Thomas Crown Affair is not content simply to coast on nostalgia. Jordan’s presence brings a contemporary urgency to the material, and Batiste’s involvement behind the scenes suggests the film’s sound will be just as carefully considered as its visuals.

Amazon MGM Studios has scheduled the film for release on March 5, 2027, giving audiences nearly a year to sit with the anticipation the trailer has already stirred up. Based on what was shown at CinemaCon, that wait will not be easy.
