Luka Doncic and his daughters come first as legal matter shifts course

The child support petition filed against Luka Doncic by his former fiancée has been withdrawn, with the mother of his two daughters stating that she intends to resolve the matter privately and in a way that prioritizes the children’s wellbeing.

Anamaria Goltes filed the withdrawal of her petition in the Superior Court of Los Angeles ahead of a court date that had been scheduled for Aug. 14. In withdrawing the filing, she stated that her intention is to resolve the matter amicably through mutual agreement, with the best interests of her children guiding the process.

The original petition, filed in March, had sought child support and attorney fees from Doncic. It required Goltes to submit a responsive pleading by Monday before the scheduled hearing, and the withdrawal was filed in response to that requirement. The document was first reported by TMZ.

The custody situation

Goltes is the mother of Doncic’s two daughters and lives in Slovenia with the children. The California petition represented one front of a custody matter that has been proceeding primarily through the Slovenian courts. Doncic filed an interim injunction with the Slovenian courts in February, seeking immediate contact with his daughters and addressing questions of joint custody and child support.

As of Monday, the custody resolution remained ongoing and under the jurisdiction of the Slovenian courts. The withdrawal of the California petition does not mean the underlying custody questions are resolved, but it does remove one formal proceeding from the picture and reflects the stated goal of both parties working toward a private resolution.

Doncic, 27, announced at the conclusion of the Los Angeles Lakers’ season in May that he intended to spend the summer in Slovenia to be with his daughters. He also announced that he would opt out of competing with the Slovenian national team in FIBA World Cup European qualifying games, describing the choice as a difficult one but explaining that his daughters would always come first.

Basketball during a personal chapter

Despite the personal circumstances, Doncic’s summer has included a significant team-building gesture. He is hosting the entire Lakers roster for a four-day minicamp in Ljubljana from Aug. 20 through Aug. 24, bringing his teammates to Slovenia during a period when he is also prioritizing his time with his daughters. The arrangement allows him to remain near his children while still fulfilling the leadership responsibilities that come with his role as the centerpiece of the Lakers’ roster.

The Lakers were swept in the second round of the playoffs by the Oklahoma City Thunder, ending their season and leaving Doncic with months to work through both the custody proceedings and the summer preparation for the coming year.

His daughters, Gabriela, who is two years old, and Olivia, who is seven months old, are at ages where parental presence carries particular weight during the custody discussions ongoing in Slovenia.

The nature of the withdrawal

Goltes‘s withdrawal of the California petition is framed explicitly as a step toward a cooperative resolution rather than a concession in any adversarial sense. Her language about mutually agreeable solutions and the children’s best interests signals that both parties are navigating the situation out of court rather than through competing legal proceedings in two different jurisdictions.

Cross-jurisdictional custody matters are inherently complex, and the Slovenian courts’ primary jurisdiction over the case reflects the fact that the children reside there with their mother. The California filing had represented an attempt to establish a parallel legal foothold in the jurisdiction where Doncic works during the NBA season. With that filing withdrawn, the proceedings are consolidated back to Slovenia.

The Aug. 14 Los Angeles court date will no longer proceed as a result of the withdrawal.
