Meghan Markle’s lifestyle series gets a second life as seasonal specials on Netflix

After two seasons and a holiday special, With Love, Meghan is not going away. A spokesperson for the Sussexes confirmed that the Netflix lifestyle series hosted by Meghan Markle will continue in a new format, returning as seasonal specials rather than full season runs. It is the first concrete update on the show’s future since it aired last year and had yet to receive a formal third-season renewal.

The news arrives amid a broader and more complicated moment in the relationship between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Netflix, with recent reporting raising questions about the state of that partnership even as both sides push back on the characterizations.

A format built for how people watch now

The shift toward seasonal specials reflects thinking Meghan had already begun sharing publicly. At an event for executive women last October, she spoke about the value of offering content in different sizes and formats, acknowledging that eight episodes across two seasons represented a significant production commitment. Her interest in reaching audiences through shorter, more targeted content had been growing, and the seasonal special model appears to be the result of that thinking taking shape.

The lifestyle series, which focused on cooking, entertaining and elevating everyday moments, earned a dedicated following even as it drew the kind of polarized attention that tends to follow everything connected to the Sussexes. The pivot to specials rather than full seasons may allow for a lighter production schedule while keeping the brand visible throughout the year.

As Ever parts ways with Netflix

The format change comes alongside another significant development. As Ever, the lifestyle brand Meghan launched in connection with the show, announced earlier this month that it is parting ways with Netflix following the completion of its first year. The brand framed the split as a natural next step, describing rapid growth and a readiness to move forward independently.

Netflix offered warm words about the partnership and Meghan’s creative vision, characterizing the separation as something that had always been part of the plan. Both parties described the parting as amicable, and the public statements from each side reflected that tone.

What the competing reports say

A more complicated picture has emerged through recent trade reporting, which cited multiple unnamed sources describing frustration among Netflix leadership with the Sussex partnership. The reporting suggested that senior figures at the company had grown weary of the arrangement, a characterization that Netflix publicly and flatly denied. The streamer called those claims inaccurate and executives went on the record to describe the Sussexes as engaged, collaborative and aligned with the kind of content the platform values.

A lawyer for the Sussexes also pushed back on specific claims in the report, including the suggestion that communication between Meghan and Netflix leadership required legal intermediaries. The attorney described that characterization as false and said contact between the parties has been direct and regular.

Reading between the lines

What emerges from the competing narratives is a partnership that both sides appear invested in presenting as functional, even as the contours of it are clearly evolving. The move to seasonal specials, the departure of As Ever from the Netflix umbrella and the dueling accounts of behind-the-scenes dynamics all point to a relationship that is being actively renegotiated rather than simply maintained.

Whether the seasonal format breathes new life into With Love, Meghan or represents a quieter wind-down will depend on how those specials land with audiences and what comes next for the Sussex brand beyond the streaming deal.
