Nicolson eyes a legacy fight with her new signing

Two weight world champion Skye Nicolson has signed with Jake Paul’s boxing promotion, marking a significant career move for the Australian fighter after spending her entire professional career with a different promotional banner.

Nicolson, who holds a strong professional record built largely around technical skill rather than knockout power, turned professional following her appearance at the Tokyo Olympics and previously captured Commonwealth Games gold as well. Her move now positions her within one of the most talent stacked rosters in women’s boxing today.

Nicolson’s title history across two weight classes

Nicolson first won a featherweight world title in 2024, successfully defending it twice before losing the belt in a closely contested decision the following year. She then moved down to junior featherweight, stringing together four consecutive victories before eventually capturing a world title in that division as well, cementing her status as a two weight world champion heading into this new chapter.

A debut set for late August

The 30 year old is scheduled to make her promotional debut in late August against Miya Yoshido, appearing on a card in Birmingham, England that also features a significant title unification bout headlining the event. Notably, Nicolson will be the first fighter to compete under a newly formed partnership between her new promotion and her previous one, adding extra significance to her debut under the new banner.

What Nicolson said about the move

Nicolson described women’s boxing as entering an exciting new era and expressed a clear desire to be at the center of that growth. She explained that this new partnership gives her the opportunity to chase a lasting legacy, compete in the sport’s biggest fights, and continue helping push the sport forward. She added that her career long goal has always been to test herself against the best available competition, and that she believes this move puts her in the strongest possible position to do exactly that.

A potential path toward a major matchup

During her time competing at featherweight, Nicolson had been vocal about her interest in eventually facing Amanda Serrano, one of the sport’s most accomplished fighters, who also competes under the same promotional banner. With Nicolson now sharing that same roster, which includes a majority of the sport’s top ranked pound for pound fighters, that potential matchup suddenly feels considerably more realistic than before.

Promotion leadership praised Nicolson as one of the most recognizable names in women’s boxing today, pointing to her combination of Olympic pedigree, Commonwealth Games success and two division world title reign as exactly the caliber of athlete the promotion has been built around. Officials expressed excitement about helping shape what they described as the defining moments of the next chapter in her career, framing her signing as part of a broader mission to establish the premier global platform for women’s boxing by bringing together the sport’s top champions.
