Rapp investigation adds a startling new detail

Authorities have filed an additional charge and significantly increased the bond against the man accused in connection with the death of professional boxer Hannah Rapp, according to jail records reviewed this week.

The man, age 31, was originally booked over the weekend on a manslaughter charge after police said Rapp, 26, died following a collision while riding her bicycle along a rural road outside College Station, Texas. According to a statement from local authorities, the newly filed charge relates specifically to a second cyclist who was present during the incident, separate from the charge tied directly to Rapp’s death.

What the new charge means for the case

Jail records show the new charge, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, carries an additional bond of $500,000, on top of the existing $250,000 bond already set for the manslaughter charge. In a neighboring county, authorities also revoked a combined bond the man had previously posted related to two separate earlier incidents involving criminal mischief and reckless discharge of a firearm.

A local sheriff’s office representative confirmed that the second cyclist present during the incident was Rapp’s boyfriend, who was not struck or injured. Limited additional details were provided, and authorities noted the investigation remains active.

How the incident unfolded

According to the original police account, the driver passed two cyclists traveling along the rural roadway over the weekend before stopping, reversing, and striking one of them. Rapp was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

Reporting has since revealed that the man accused in the case has a lengthy arrest history in the area dating back more than a decade, including previous guilty pleas tied to reckless driving and evading arrest. Local news outlets also reported a more recent incident in which he allegedly chased passing vehicles while armed with an axe and knife along a road that intersects with the same roadway where the fatal incident occurred.

A community mourns a rising boxing star

The new charge was filed the same day hundreds of community members gathered for a candlelight vigil honoring Rapp, a rising professional boxer known for her infectious smile and a fighting nickname that reflected her spirited personality. Authorities closed a nearby road to accommodate the gathering outside the boxing gym where she trained.

Rapp, originally from Indiana, competed as a track athlete in college before transitioning to professional boxing. She relocated to Texas, turned professional in 2024, and balanced her athletic career with a full time position as a fire and life safety inspector. She built an undefeated record with one draw before recently competing for a world featherweight title, a bout she ultimately lost by decision after a spirited performance.

Her death has left a lasting impact on the local boxing community, and the ongoing legal proceedings against the man accused in the case continue to develop as investigators work through the details of what happened that morning.
