Attorneys representing the former girlfriend of Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs filed a motion Tuesday to permanently seal discovery materials in his criminal case, citing their client’s privacy interests.
Attorneys Ramses Jalalpour and Amir Tahmassebi said in a statement that the motion is consistent with their client’s desire to protect her privacy, particularly in light of him taking responsibility for his actions in the criminal proceeding. The statement identifies the woman as ANM, consistent with how she was identified in the criminal complaint.
Brown County Circuit Judge Marc A. Hammer temporarily sealed court materials last Thursday after Jacobs pleaded no contest to battery and criminal damage to property, both misdemeanors.
What is at stake in the sealing motion
A permanent seal could prevent the NFL from reviewing surveillance video from a May 23 incident at Jacobs’ home, which is referenced in the criminal complaint and which the NFL is attempting to obtain for its investigation, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
He was placed on the commissioner exempt list on Aug. 30 and cannot play or practice while the investigation continues. Time spent on that list counts toward any eventual suspension. The league’s investigation and any subsequent discipline remain ongoing.
The criminal disposition
He was convicted of the battery charge and fined $1,000. He agreed to a deferred judgment on the criminal damage to property charge. He was ordered to have no contact with the victim, pay restitution, attend counseling and remain under supervision for one year.
