A quiet Sunday afternoon in Beverly Hills turned alarming when a woman opened fire at the gated estate of Rihanna and her partner A$AP Rocky, with the Grammy-winning artist reportedly inside at the time.

The woman in her 30s was arrested and charged with attempted murder after firing multiple shots at the singer’s $14 million estate on Sunday afternoon.

The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed the incident unfolded around 1:20 p.m. on March 8, with authorities stating that between five and ten shots were fired at the property. The suspect, identified as Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, allegedly aimed directly at the home. Every shot struck the outer gate rather than the structure itself, and no injuries were reported. Ortiz was taken into custody without further incident and is being held on a $10.2 million bail.

What unfolded outside the gates

Officers initially responded to a call involving assault with a deadly weapon. Audio dispatch at the time described the scene as involving roughly ten shots fired from across the street. Rihanna, born Robyn Rihanna Fenty, was confirmed to be home along with several other individuals at the time. Whether her three young children were present remains unclear.

The couple shares three children together, including two sons and a daughter born in September of last year. The family has called the Beverly Hills property home since purchasing it in 2020 for $13.8 million, with the current estimated value sitting at $14 million.

Inside the $14M Beverly Hills estate

The 7,600-square-foot mansion sits near the Beverly Hills Hotel and Sunset Boulevard and was originally built in 1938. Over the decades it has been thoughtfully modernized to blend contemporary design with its original traditional character. The home features five bedrooms, French oak flooring, a chef’s kitchen, a cocktail bar, and formal living spaces. The primary suite includes sweeping views and a spa-style bathroom that flows into a private outdoor retreat.

A real estate portfolio fit for a global icon

Beyond their primary residence, Rihanna has built an impressive collection of luxury properties over the years. In 2018, she leased a 19th-century London townhouse for roughly $25,000 a week, a home later listed at nearly $41 million. That property featured mirror-lined ceilings, black parquet floors, and a music room adorned with Swarovski crystals.

During the summer of 2020, the singer rented a Hamptons estate for $415,000 a month. The 6,140-square-foot property boasted five bedrooms, six bathrooms, and open interiors framed by lush landscaping. It also carries a notable pop culture footnote as the filming location for a 2014 Kardashian reality series.

Earlier in her career, Rihanna briefly called Manhattan home, renting a sprawling penthouse in 2013 for $39,000 a month. Spanning 7,000 square feet across the top two floors of the building, the unit included a 2,400-square-foot wraparound terrace, a wood-burning fireplace, soaring 13-foot ceilings, and a chef’s kitchen. When the rent climbed to $50,000 a month in 2017, she moved on. The unit was later listed at $17 million but has since cycled on and off the market without finding a buyer.

As the investigation into Sunday’s shooting continues, the incident serves as a sobering reminder that even the most fortified celebrity residences are not immune to danger.
