The Ravens finally have their quarterback help, though it came a day too late for Thursday night. After days of talks, the two teams made the deal official.
The Baltimore Ravens completed the Brissett trade with the Arizona Cardinals on Friday, Nov. 6, 2026, landing veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett as they try to save a fading season.
What are the terms of the Brissett trade?
Baltimore receives Brissett and a pick in the fifth round of the 2027 draft. Arizona gets a pick in the fourth round of the 2027 draft and a pick in the seventh round of the 2028 draft, according to reports. The swap of picks gives Arizona a slight upgrade in draft position.
The Cardinals are paying a little more than half of the salary Brissett is owed for the rest of the 2026 season, according to reports. That arrangement lowers the cost for Baltimore as it tries to stay within its salary cap.
Brissett received $15.5 million guaranteed for this season after holding out for a new contract during the offseason. The new deal replaced a contract that had originally guaranteed him only $1.5 million.
Why did Baltimore need the Brissett trade?
The Ravens lost star Lamar Jackson to a thumb injury that requires surgery and may end his season. Backup Tyler Huntley will miss the rest of the season with a turf toe injury, according to reports. The injuries left the team without its top two quarterbacks within days.
Undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano started Thursday night as the deal was being finalized. He completed 10 of 18 passes for 60 yards with two interceptions in a 33 to 10 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Baltimore’s offense struggled to move the ball throughout the night.
The loss was Baltimore’s fourth straight and dropped the team to four wins and five losses. The team has now failed to top 13 points in four straight games.
Why did the Cardinals agree to the Brissett trade?
Arizona benched Brissett during Sunday’s overtime win over the Dallas Cowboys and named Gardner Minshew the starter. Brissett asked for a trade after learning of the change. Minshew rallied the team to victory after replacing him.
The Brissett trade gives Arizona extra draft capital while moving on from a quarterback who no longer fit its plans. It also frees up the roster for Minshew and rookie Carson Beck.
He had started the previous 20 games for the Cardinals dating to last season before the Brissett trade.
When will Brissett play for Baltimore?
The Ravens have 11 days off before a Monday night game against the Los Angeles Chargers on Nov. 16, giving Brissett time to learn the offense.
He will reunite with Ravens quarterbacks coach Israel Woolfork, who coached him in Arizona last season and in Cleveland in 2022. That relationship could help him get comfortable in the offense quickly.
If he plays, he will be the fourth quarterback to throw a pass for Baltimore this season, tying a team record. The Ravens also matched that mark in 2015 and 2020.
What does the Brissett trade mean for the Ravens?
The Ravens entered the season with Super Bowl hopes but now sit last in the AFC North. Brissett gives them a steady veteran who has started dozens of NFL games. He is known as a smart, reliable leader who protects the football.
The NFL trade deadline is Nov. 10, and Baltimore could still make more moves.
Whether the Brissett trade can turn around the season will become clear quickly once he takes the field. Fans in Baltimore will be watching closely when he makes his debut.
