Nobody involved has explained why Usher and Chris Brown’s first Atlanta stop on The R&B Tour started hours late. The Thursday, Nov. 5 concert at Mercedes-Benz Stadium opened a record five night stand, but fans say the music didn’t start until around 10 p.m. The two stars never shared the stage, and both sets were cut as the night ran up against midnight.
The start time itself is in dispute. The stadium listing advertised the show for half past seven. A representative for Usher told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution the production was scheduled for half past eight. That hour changes the math, but even by the later time, the show started roughly 90 minutes late.
Why did the Usher and Chris Brown show start so late?
There is still no official answer. TMZ, citing unnamed sources, reported that heavy traffic around the stadium left many ticket holders stuck outside and that the singers argued over whether to wait for them. In TMZ’s version, Usher wanted to keep the show on schedule and Brown wanted to hold it for late arrivals. Several other outlets have reported the same story with the roles reversed, and neither artist has confirmed any argument.
Inside the stadium, the night felt rushed to many fans. Concertgoers complained online about missing duets, a shortened setlist and sound problems. Some demanded refunds from Ticketmaster. No refund offer has been reported.

Did Usher and Chris Brown really argue backstage?
Brown responded quickly. He posted a cap emoji aimed at the internet on his Instagram Story and told fans not to believe what they were reading. He didn’t say which claim he meant.
Usher has stayed quiet, and his opening line added to the speculation. He welcomed the crowd to his show before going into U Don’t Have to Call, and fans started picking that moment apart online.
TMZ’s sources said the two have been intensely competitive all tour, though the outlet was told the tour itself is not in danger. The rumor also has some history behind it. In 2023, Usher stepped in at Brown’s birthday party when Brown was yelling at Teyana Taylor, according to TMZ.
Why does this Atlanta stumble hit Usher harder?
Atlanta is Usher’s city. He came up through its music scene, and he calls it home. This run was supposed to be a victory lap in the stadium that sits in the city’s historic Vine City neighborhood.
Few people have pointed this out yet. When the tour was announced in April, Atlanta was promised two nights. The stadium kept adding dates as demand grew, including the Nov. 5 opener announced in August. That addition made this the first time any act has played five shows at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in a single tour stop, passing Beyoncé’s four nights in 2025. The extra night fans pushed for is the one that went wrong.
The money raises the stakes. The R&B Tour grossed $77.4 million across 10 shows in September, the highest total of any tour that month, according to Billboard data. For the Black fans who fill these stadiums and paid premium prices on a Thursday work night, a 10 p.m. start with a midnight cutoff cost them time and money.
What comes next for Usher and Chris Brown in Atlanta?
After Friday’s second show, the run continues Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The tour then heads to Los Angeles, New Orleans, Houston and Miami before closing Dec. 11 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.
Atlanta now has three more nights to watch for the detail that matters most. If Usher and Chris Brown share the stage again, the feud talk loses steam. If they keep performing separate sets, the rumors will keep growing.
