American Express has filed a new lawsuit against R&B singer Ray J, whose legal name is Ray Norwood, alleging that he failed to repay an outstanding balance of $78,704.56 on a credit card account. The complaint alleges breach of contract and seeks a court judgment awarding the company the full balance plus interest and legal costs.

According to the filing, American Express contends that Norwood entered into a cardholder agreement that required him to repay all charges and accumulated balances on the account. The company alleges he did not satisfy that obligation.

The lawsuit also names Rajun Cajun Inc., a business connected to Norwood, as a co-defendant, though the specific nature of that entity’s relationship to the account has not been detailed in publicly available filings. Sources familiar with the matter told TMZ that Norwood intends to pay off the debt.

A second lawsuit in less than four months

The new filing follows a separate American Express lawsuit initiated against Norwood in December, in which the company alleged he owed $139,849.85 on a different credit account. That earlier case also named Tronix Network, a company associated with Norwood’s technology and digital business ventures, as a defendant. American Express alleged in that complaint that both defendants failed to meet their payment obligations under a separate cardholder agreement.

The two cases together represent more than $218,000 in alleged unpaid balances that American Express is seeking to recover through the courts.

Broader legal context

The American Express litigation adds to a series of ongoing legal matters involving Norwood. He is also currently involved in a separate lawsuit with Kris Jenner and Kim Kardashian, the details of which have been the subject of ongoing court proceedings.

Norwood declined to comment when contacted by TMZ. His attorney has not made a public statement regarding either American Express lawsuit.
