On March 27, 2026, Tiger Woods one of the most decorated golfers in the history of the sport was arrested following a serious rollover crash in Jupiter Island, Florida. His SUV collided with a truck trailer and flipped over, bringing law enforcement to the scene and setting off a chain of events that has since captivated the sports world.
Woods has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor DUI with property damage and announced he is stepping away from golf to focus on treatment and recovery. In the days that followed, body cam footage from the arrest was released to the public, offering an unfiltered look at what unfolded that night. The 15 time major winner, long regarded as one of the most dominant athletes of his generation, appeared visibly impaired though a breath test confirmed no alcohol in his system.
What followed was far more complicated.
5 moments from the body cam footage that stood out
A mention of the president
Among the more unexpected details captured on camera is a moment in which Woods told deputies he had just been speaking with the president later confirmed to be a reference to Donald Trump. The comment added an unusual dimension to an already difficult situation and quickly became one of the most-discussed details from the footage online.
A difficult sobriety test
The field sobriety test footage is hard to watch for anyone who has followed Woods career. Deputies noted signs of lethargy and impairment as he struggled to complete the standard evaluations. His movements appeared slow and unfocused throughout, and officers documented their observations in detail.
Hydrocodone pills found in his pocket
A pivotal moment in the footage comes when deputies discover two hydrocodone pills on Woods during the search. That discovery reframed the situation almost immediately, shifting the conversation from a traffic incident to a more serious discussion about prescription medication, dependency and the state of his health. Woods had previously cited prescription medication as a factor in his 2017 DUI arrest as well.
Woods in the back of a patrol car
One of the most striking images from the footage is Woods sitting in the backseat of a patrol car, handcuffed and appearing dazed. It is a stark visual contrast to the focused, commanding presence he has projected on golf courses for decades and it landed heavily with fans watching the footage.
Genuine disbelief throughout
Running through much of the footage is a sense that Woods himself seemed surprised by what was happening. His reactions suggested confusion about the gravity of the situation, which, for many viewers, made the footage feel especially raw and uncomfortable.
A pattern that has followed him for years
This arrest does not exist in isolation. Woods has navigated a series of high-profile personal crises over the years, including a 2009 car crash that exposed deeply private details of his personal life, a second DUI arrest in 2017 and a devastating 2021 accident that left him with serious leg injuries requiring extensive rehabilitation. Each incident has added a new chapter to a narrative that many of his supporters had hoped was behind him.
The latest arrest arrives at a point when Woods had already been managing significant physical limitations on the course. His withdrawal from competition to pursue treatment marks yet another pause in a career that has spent decades cycling between triumph and setback.
What comes next for Woods
Public reaction to the footage has been largely one of concern rather than condemnation, with many fans and sports commentators focusing on what the moment says about the pressures and private struggles that often accompany extraordinary public careers.
For now, Woods is away from the game, and those closest to the sport say they hope his time in treatment leads to meaningful and lasting recovery. Whether he returns to competitive golf remains an open question but in this moment, the focus for many is simply on his well-being.
