British entertainer Yung Filly is headed for a second trial in Australia after a jury failed to reach a verdict on three serious charges connected to an alleged 2024 incident, even as he was found guilty on two separate counts stemming from the same night.

What led to the case

The case traces back to September 2024, when a woman said she met the performer at a Perth nightclub following one of his shows. According to her account, the two went back to his hotel room, where what had begun as a consensual encounter turned into a situation she says involved physical harm and did not stop despite her objections.

The outcome of the first trial

During the initial proceedings, jurors convicted Yung Filly on two lesser counts tied to physical harm inflicted that night, but they could not agree on the three more serious counts related to the encounter itself. Because no unanimous decision could be reached on those charges, prosecutors have opted to pursue them again in a new trial rather than let the matter drop.

What a conviction could mean

If found guilty on the outstanding counts in the retrial, Yung Filly could face up to 25 years behind bars, according to Australian authorities. The two counts he was already convicted on carry their own separate penalties, which will be determined separately from the retrial process.

Additional legal trouble

Yung Filly’s legal situation has grown more complicated since the first trial concluded. He was subsequently charged with cannabis possession while he was released on conditions following the initial verdict. That matter is scheduled to be heard in September at a local Magistrates Court, running on a separate track from the retrial.

Travel restrictions and upcoming hearings

As things currently stand, Yung Filly is barred from leaving Australia without a court’s explicit permission. He is due back in court on August 27 for a hearing related to the conditions of his release. The woman at the center of the case has indicated she is prepared to testify again when the retrial moves forward.

What comes next

No date has yet been set for the retrial, but both legal teams are expected to begin preparing in the coming weeks. For Yung Filly, a rapper and YouTuber who built a substantial following through comedic content and music before branching into live performances, the case represents a significant test with implications for both his personal life and his career.

A case drawing wide attention

The proceedings have drawn considerable public interest, in part because of Yung Filly’s online profile and in part because of broader conversations about how courts handle cases involving conflicting accounts of consent. Legal observers say retrials of this kind are not unusual when a jury deadlocks on some counts while reaching agreement on others, since prosecutors retain the option to seek resolution on unresolved charges rather than leave them unaddressed.

For now, the case remains in a holding pattern as both sides await a scheduled date. The August 27 hearing is expected to offer the next concrete update on how the process will proceed, including any adjustments to Yung Filly’s release conditions ahead of the new trial.

As the story develops, further hearings and procedural updates are expected in the weeks ahead, with the eventual retrial likely to draw significant attention both in Australia and among Yung Filly‘s international audience.
