There are moments in life that no amount of fame or fortune can manufacture, and for A$AP Rocky, the births of his three children with Rihanna rank among the most authentic of them all. In a candid new feature for Vibe’s highly anticipated return to print media, published in its Summer 2026 Limited Edition issue, Rocky peeled back the curtain on what fatherhood truly looks like behind closed doors.
When the couple welcomed their firstborn, RZA, in May 2022, the experience was new territory for both of them. Rocky described that moment as electric and unpredictable, the kind of life event you cannot fully prepare for no matter how hard you try. But by the time Rihanna went into labor with their second and third children, something had shifted. The nerves gave way to something much warmer.
According to Rocky, the mood in the delivery room during the births of their son Riot in August 2023 and daughter Rocki Irish Mayers in September 2025 was nothing short of lighthearted. He and Rihanna spent those hours laughing together and keeping the energy playful, a reflection of the easy chemistry the couple has always carried into even the most intense moments of their lives.
A$AP Rocky on what fatherhood really means
Beyond the delivery room stories, Rocky took time in the Vibe feature to articulate his personal philosophy on what it means to be a father. For him, the role goes well beyond providing or protecting. He spoke about the importance of being emotionally present and genuinely available to his children, qualities he described not as goals he is striving toward but as traits that come naturally to him.
He is also thinking ahead. With three children who could easily grow up insulated from the realities most people face, Rocky is intentional about keeping them grounded. He wants them connected to family, exposed to real life, and shaped by the kind of humility that does not come automatically when you are raised in extraordinary circumstances.
A frightening night that changed everything
The Vibe feature was not all warmth and reflection. Rocky also addressed one of the most alarming chapters the family has faced in recent memory. In March 2026, a woman fired more than ten rounds from a high-powered rifle into the couple’s Los Angeles home while Rocky, Rihanna, and all three of their children were inside.
The woman, identified as Ivana Ortiz, was apprehended near their Beverly Hills home shortly after attempting to flee the scene. She later pleaded not guilty to multiple counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and shooting at an occupied dwelling. She currently faces a potential life sentence if convicted. A judge ordered a mental health evaluation in May after her defense attorney raised concerns about her ability to stand trial.
For Rocky, the incident was more than a headline. It was a rupture in the life he and Rihanna had built together. He described the attack as deeply disturbing and spoke plainly about what it took from his family, the ability to move through the world freely and without fear. The casual ease with which they once walked city streets and engaged with fans now feels like something that has to be earned back rather than assumed.
Even so, Rocky made clear that he is not willing to let that moment define the tone of his family’s life. The same man who laughed with Rihanna through three labors is determined to hold onto that spirit and refuse to let fear have the final word.
