Shirlene King Pearson, widely known as Ms. Juicy, is back in the headlines though not for the reasons her fans would hope. The reality television personality was arrested in Georgia on April 18 on two charges, suspicion of driving with a suspended or revoked license and suspicion of driving without insurance. Online records confirm she was released the following day, according to TMZ.

The arrest comes at a particularly tender moment for the 49-year-old television personality, who has spent the past several years focused on recovering from a serious stroke that left her fighting to relearn the most basic functions of daily life.

Pearson built her fanbase primarily through her role on Little Women: Atlanta, the Lifetime reality series that ran for six seasons from 2016 to 2021. The show was a spinoff of Little Women: L.A., which had its own successful eight-season run beginning in 2014. Together, the two shows became a cornerstone of Lifetime’s reality programming and introduced Pearson to millions of viewers who embraced her outspoken personality and warm presence.

Before and during her time on the show, Pearson was also a co host on The Rickey Smiley Morning Show, a platform she held for 14 years before departing in 2019. The combination of her television work and radio presence made her one of the more recognizable personalities in Black entertainment.

A stroke that changed everything

In 2022, Pearson suffered a stroke serious enough to land her in the ICU, a health crisis that stunned fans and the entertainment community alike. Her representatives confirmed her hospitalization at the time while noting her characteristically private nature and her determination to fight through the ordeal.

The recovery proved to be an enormous undertaking. Pearson later opened up about what the process actually looked like relearning how to walk, talk, eat and swallow, skills most people never have to consciously reacquire. In a 2023 interview with journalist Portia Bruner, she described the moment she realized something was seriously wrong, recalling that she had called a neighbor before passing out. Paramedics discovered she had suffered a stroke, and she later learned she had been placed in a medically induced state and required a feeding tube during the early stages of her recovery.

Despite not being fully recovered, Pearson made a point of expressing gratitude for her life, for her fans and for every small step of progress.

Community rallies around her

To help offset mounting healthcare costs, a GoFundMe campaign was launched on Pearson’s behalf and has since raised more than $19,000. The financial support offered a measure of relief as she navigated a recovery process that stretched well beyond a hospital stay. For her supporters, the campaign also became a way to show the tangible love they had long expressed on social media.

A resilient figure facing new challenges

The juxtaposition of Pearson’s health journey and this latest legal development paints a complicated picture of a woman who has been through an enormous amount in a relatively short span of time. She has been remarkably open about the physical and emotional toll of her stroke, sharing updates with fans who have followed her story closely.

The driving charges she now faces are relatively minor in the broader legal landscape, but they add another layer of difficulty to a chapter in her life already defined by hardship. Whether this moment becomes a footnote or something more significant in her story remains to be seen.

What is clear is that Pearson has demonstrated a genuine capacity for resilience. Her road back from a life altering stroke, documented in part through her own willingness to speak honestly about the experience, has already inspired many who have followed her journey. Her community, it seems, is not ready to give up on her  and by all indications, she is not ready to give up on herself.
