Dwight Howard files for divorce after shocking claims

Former NBA champion Dwight Howard has filed for divorce from his wife Amber Howard, a development that surfaced only hours after she posted a series of startling accusations on social media.

Court filings submitted in Georgia indicate that Howard petitioned for divorce on Monday morning. In the documents, the former professional basketball player listed January 11, 2025 as the date of marriage and stated that the relationship had reached a point where reconciliation was no longer possible.

According to the filing, the marriage was described as irretrievably broken. The paperwork also noted that the couple shares no children together.

Howard also requested exclusive use of his residence in Georgia as the divorce proceedings move forward. The filing arrives at a moment when attention around the couple has intensified following claims made online by Amber Howard.

Accusations spark attention around the divorce

Amber Howard, who is known professionally as Amy Luciani, posted a video on Instagram over the weekend that quickly circulated across social media. In the recording, she alleged that Child Protective Services had taken custody of one of Howard’s daughters.

The claim spread widely online within hours. No official confirmation has surfaced regarding the allegation, and representatives for Howard have not publicly addressed the matter.

The video nonetheless placed the couple’s relationship under renewed scrutiny. Howard’s decision to file for divorce shortly afterward added another layer to a situation that had already drawn public curiosity.

For many observers, the sequence of events illustrates how personal disputes can rapidly unfold in public view when social media becomes part of the narrative.

The turbulent timeline of the Howard marriage

The relationship between Howard and Amber Howard has experienced multiple public turns since their wedding early last year. Their marriage began in January 2025 and soon attracted attention from sports and entertainment outlets.

Six months later, Amber Howard initiated divorce proceedings during the summer of 2025. At the time, the filing suggested growing tension between the couple. That legal effort was eventually withdrawn, allowing the marriage to continue.

Around the same period, Howard also filed a divorce petition of his own. That filing was dismissed as well, leaving the couple technically married as they attempted to move forward.

Those earlier legal steps now appear to have foreshadowed the current situation. Howard’s latest filing again signals that the relationship has reached a breaking point.

Howard’s career and public image

Howard spent nearly two decades in professional basketball and remains one of the most recognizable centers of his generation. During his career he played for several franchises, including the Los Angeles Lakers, and earned multiple All Star selections along with a championship ring in 2020.

Since stepping away from the NBA, Howard has remained visible in sports media and alternative basketball leagues while maintaining a large online following.

That visibility has often meant that developments in his personal life draw immediate attention. The current divorce filing continues that pattern, placing the former star back into headlines beyond the basketball court.

The next phase for Dwight Howard

Divorce filings mark only the first stage of what could become a longer legal process. Courts in Georgia typically require additional steps before a separation becomes final, including financial arrangements and property considerations.

For now, Howard’s filing indicates his intention to move forward with ending the marriage.

The allegations raised online remain unverified, and no public statements have clarified the claims regarding his family. Until further information emerges, the situation remains a mix of legal proceedings and unresolved accusations circulating through social media.

What is clear is that the relationship between Howard and Amber Howard has entered a new and uncertain chapter. The coming weeks may reveal whether the divorce proceeds quickly or becomes another complicated turn in a relationship that has already seen several.
