Kisha Grandy, best known as one of the original members of Kirk Franklin & The Family, has released a new single titled I Believe God through Blacksmoke Music Worldwide. The track centers on themes of faith, hope and perseverance, offering listeners an uplifting message during difficult times in their personal lives.

How the song came together

The single was born out of an unplanned encounter. A woman once approached Kisha’s husband, producer Ernest J. Lee, and asked him to write a song called  I Believe God. He took on the challenge, ultimately crafting a track that closely mirrored his wife’s own life story and spiritual journey. When Kisha first heard the finished version, she immediately recognized it as a reflection of her personal testimony, something she had lived through long before the song existed.

A career rooted in gospel music history

Kisha is 1 of the original 17 members of Kirk Franklin & The Family, a gospel group credited with blending traditional gospel sounds with R&B, hip hop and pop influences beginning in the early 1990s. The group built a catalog of well known songs, including Silver & Gold and Savior More Than Life to Me, tracks that remain staples of gospel radio today. Between 1993 and 2010, the ensemble released 8 albums, beginning with its debut, Kirk Franklin & The Family Live, which has been reissued multiple times over the years to reach new generations of listeners.

During its run, the group earned 14 Dove Awards and sold more than 7.5 million records, becoming one of the most commercially successful acts in gospel music history. As the group’s popularity grew, several members began branching into solo careers, including Kisha, while others pursued paths in ministry or public service. The group ultimately disbanded in 2010 after nearly two decades together.

In recent years, 12 of the original members reunited to reform The Family, signing with Blacksmoke Music Worldwide, a label known for representing several established names in gospel music.

The Family’s ongoing projects

The reunited group released an album titled Together Forever, which climbed to the top of Billboard’s gospel charts following its release. Kisha, who also works as an actress with credits including I Can Do Bad All by Myself and Sideline Confessions, remains active with the group, though its collective output has slowed temporarily while a member recovers from illness. Despite the pause, Kisha continues to pursue individual projects alongside her ongoing role in The Family, balancing both commitments as the group awaits its next chapter.

A family affair

Kisha has credited her husband with playing a central role in bringing I Believe God to life, both as the song’s producer and as one of her closest supporters throughout her career. The couple is preparing to celebrate their second wedding anniversary later this month, a milestone that adds a personal layer to the timing of the single’s release and underscores the collaborative nature of their creative partnership.

The message behind the music

Kisha has said she hopes the song offers listeners a sense of hope during uncertain times. The single’s central message encourages listeners to trust that a way forward exists even when circumstances seem difficult, a theme she says feels especially relevant given the challenges many people are currently facing in their own lives.

What’s next

I Believe God arrives as Kisha continues to balance her solo career with her ongoing involvement in The Family. With the group’s reunion album already performing well commercially and Kisha’s new single generating attention of its own, fans can expect continued output from both projects in the months ahead. For Kisha, the release marks another chapter in a career that has spanned more than 3 decades, one still guided by the same themes of faith and resilience that first defined her work with Kirk Franklin & The Family.

Listeners can find I Believe God through Blacksmoke Music Worldwide’s official channels, along with updates on Kisha’s other upcoming releases.
