A suspect has been arrested after Missouri football player Ahmad Hardy was shot at a Mississippi concert and underwent surgery.

Authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with the shooting of Missouri Tigers running back Ahmad Hardy, nearly one week after the college football player was injured during an outdoor concert in Mississippi.

Rashodrick Harris, 20, of Wayne County, Mississippi, was taken into custody on May 14 in Paducah, Kentucky, according to reports from the Associated Press and NBC Sports, citing the Laurel Police Department.

The arrest comes after Hardy, 20, was shot in the upper leg while attending a concert on May 10. The athlete later underwent surgery and has since returned home to Missouri as he continues recovering from his injuries.

Investigators said Harris was identified through surveillance footage gathered during the investigation into the shooting.

According to authorities, witness information and video evidence helped investigators connect Harris to the incident.

Police said surveillance footage played a major role in identifying the suspect. An arrest warrant was later issued after investigators reviewed evidence connected to the shooting, harris is currently awaiting extradition and is expected to face two counts of aggravated assault.

Sgt. Macon Davis of the Laurel Police Department confirmed details of the arrest to the Associated Press.

Officials also revealed that three additional people of interest were initially detained during the investigation but were later released without charges.

Police said the investigation remains active and additional arrests could still occur as detectives continue reviewing evidence and interviewing witnesses tied to the concert shooting.

Ahmad Hardy continues recovery after surgery

Hardy underwent surgery shortly after the shooting and was later reported to be in stable condition.

The Missouri football program publicly addressed the incident one day after the shooting, confirming that the player had suffered a gunshot wound.

The university stated that Hardy was stable following surgery.

School officials also said the running back remains surrounded by support from teammates, coaches, friends and family members.

Missouri Athletics added that there is currently no timetable for his return to football activities.

ESPN reporter Pete Thamel later shared that Hardy was alert and moving around shortly after the procedure, offering a positive update on the player’s condition.

The shooting stunned many fans of the Missouri Tigers football program, especially as Hardy had recently joined the team after an impressive season at the University of Louisiana Monroe.

Hardy recently transferred to Missouri

Before transferring to Missouri, Hardy built momentum as one of Louisiana-Monroe’s top offensive players during the 2024 season.

He rushed for 1,351 yards during the year.

The running back also scored 13 touchdowns.

His strong performances helped raise expectations for his role at Missouri heading into the 2026 season.

Hardy, 20, transferred to the University of Missouri from the University of Louisiana-Monroe following the 2024 season. During his time at Louisiana Monroe, he had an impressive final year, rushing for 1,351 yards and scoring 13 touchdowns, performances that made him a notable addition to the Missouri roster ahead of the 2026 season.

Whether Hardy will be available to play during the remainder of the 2026 season remains unknown. Mizzou Athletics has said it will provide further updates on his status as more information becomes available, leaving fans and teammates waiting for news on his recovery and path forward.

Hardy’s future availability for the remainder of the season remains unclear as he focuses on recovery.

The incident has also renewed conversations surrounding safety at large public events and outdoor concerts, particularly after several recent high profile shootings involving athletes and entertainers across the country.

Missouri supporters and members of the football community have continued sharing messages of encouragement online as Hardy recovers from his injuries.

For now, investigators are continuing to piece together exactly what led to the shooting and whether additional suspects could face charges in the coming days.
