OJ Da Juiceman was arrested on March 15. Six days later, he was rushed to the emergency room. His representatives say those two facts are directly connected, and they are not prepared to stay quiet about either one.
The Atlanta rapper, whose legal name is Otis Whitfield Williams Jr., was taken into custody by the Georgia State Patrol and booked into DeKalb County jail on March 16. He faces 10 charges stemming from an incident on January 28, when a state trooper alleged that OJ passed him on I-20 East and pointed a firearm at him on multiple occasions before fleeing the scene.
On March 21, OJ suffered a medical episode related to his Type 1 diabetes while in custody and was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta for emergency treatment. His management team described the incident as entirely preventable and made clear they hold the circumstances of his detention responsible.
What his team is saying
Representatives for the 44-year-old rapper told TMZ that his health and safety were put at unnecessary risk during his time in custody. They contend the situation should not have unfolded the way it did and that the people responsible for his care while detained failed him.
His team also pushed back firmly on the underlying charges. According to his management, OJ has genuine respect for law enforcement and the conduct he has been accused of is inconsistent with his character. They went further, claiming that authorities already know the identity of the person who actually committed the offense, yet continue to pursue charges against OJ regardless.
A sworn affidavit and an alibi
Central to OJ’s defense is a sworn affidavit from a woman who says he was not behind the wheel at the time of the alleged confrontation. She states that OJ rented the vehicle on her behalf and that she gave another man permission to use it. Her account, if verified, would place someone else in the driver’s seat during the incident the trooper described.
The charges OJ faces include felony aggravated assault upon a public safety officer, felony possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, misdemeanor pointing or aiming a gun at another person, and several additional traffic-related offenses.
Professional fallout
Beyond the legal and medical dimensions, OJ’s team says the arrest has created real financial damage. Missed performance bookings and disruptions to the rollout of his latest project, R&B Juice 2, a collaboration with Chester and Zaytoven, have set back his career at a critical moment.
His management and legal team stated publicly that they expect the situation to be resolved and resolved quickly. They indicated they are prepared to pursue all available legal options if it is not.
The case remains active. No trial date has been publicly announced.
