The Charlotte Soul Fest returns September 5 in the city’s Uptown district, blending live music, dance and art with practical community offerings. Attendees can expect performances on a main stage, interactive dance sessions, a wellness village, resources on housing and financial literacy, a market spotlighting young entrepreneurs, and food trucks representing some of the city’s local favorites.
Chicago pairs jazz with African arts and culture
Music lovers in Chicago have two major draws this weekend. The Chicago Jazz Festival brings free performances from local, national and international artists across multiple neighborhoods, celebrating one of the city’s signature art forms. Brooklyn is preparing for one of its largest cultural celebrations of the year as the New York Caribbean Carnival returns Monday. Reggae and dancehall performer and soca artist have been named honorary grand marshals for the 59th annual event, which culminates in a parade along Eastern Parkway starting at 11 a.m. Smaller gatherings featuring food and music continue throughout the weekend leading up to the main event.
